Breitling Super Ocean ReplicaI bought my Breitling watch about 7 years in the past and put on it practically everyday. Despite sporting it nearly every day, having gone diving with it, kiteboarded with it, and trekked throughout Australia, Scandinavia and the Far East, it seems pretty much as good at the moment as the day I purchased it.

In all honesty I'd by no means heard of Breitling watches until I went into a store to purchase a Tag Heuer - everybody I knew gave the impression to be sporting a Tag and it seemed like the perfect watch that might be worn both formally and for sport. Anyhow, while I was within the department retailer looking at the Tag collections, the assistant said, that if I preferred Tag, I may also be thinking about Breitling.

Nicely, it was love at first sight. I do know not everybody goes to like Breitling watches. Whereas I think they're stunning, I can understand why some would not like them. They are not as 'rounded' as others like Tag or Seconda. Though fashionable, they've a certain old fashioned, more durable-edged type to them. I discovered later that the majority collections of Breitling watches had been designed over 50 years ago and, regardless of some changes to the actions and minor aesthetic modifications, they're pretty much the same wristwatch as they were 50 years ago.

The Shadow Flyback I purchased options an ETA 2892-A2 mechanical movement. The motion is a chronograph, is automated and has a flyback complication. Most stopwatch second fingers may be stopped and then set to zero; with a flyback complication the second hand can be reset to zero with out stopping the timer - it continues to run from the zero position. The power reserve of the motion is forty two hours.

Like all watches within the Breitling Windrider collection, the bezel is raised and is unidirectional - it isn't a diver's watch the place the bezel is one-directional. Nevertheless, the watch is water-proof to 100mm - I have been diving with this watch to a depth of 20 meters so I can vouch for its water tightness.

Though the dial is available in a couple of colours, the one I bought is of a very darkish blue which appears black unless seen in sun light. There are 3 subdials; second hand, 10 minute interval and 3 hour interval. The subdials are the identical colour as the dial and are set in a tri compax configuration, which means they are positioned at the 3, 6 and 9 o'clock position. The date aperture is discovered between the four and 5 hour marker. I like this format as it's the more unusual in the Windrider assortment; most other watches come with subdials on the 6, 9 and 12 o'clock place with the date aperture on the 3 hour marker.

The hour markers are just that; there aren't any numerals, which provides it a very subtle look, I think. The markers together with the hour and minute hand are luminous as is the tip of the stopwatch second hand. Incidentally, the stopwatch second hand is properly counterbalanced with the Breitling 'B' logo.

Finally, this Breitling watch is out there in stainless-steel, 18k gold or two-tone. Mine is stainless-steel (the perfect finish) and comes with one of the best watch straps you'll be able to probably purchase, the Pilot strap; the marginally diagonal, chunky rectangular links really are very attractive.

As I've said I've had the Shadow Flyback for 7 years and other than some minor scratches on the clasp there isn't a mark on it. Since, buying it I've change into a huge fan of Breitling watches and it is my intention, once I save sufficient money, to buy the Navitimer Comsonaute - another beautiful Breitling Super Ocean Replica.
